How to pet Capybara
- Approach the capybara in a calm, non-threatening manner. By this point, you should be able to tell if the capybara is comfortable with being petted by how it is standing and interacting with its environment. If it seems interested and unbothered, move forward and kneel or squat down next to the capybara at a short distance. It might come over to you for some head scratches or tummy rubs!

Who is eligible for capybara petting?
To pet capybaras, you must:
- Be a person who has a valid passport. If you do not have a valid passport, we can provide one for an additional ¥500 per person. Please be aware that this service is only available in Japan and Argentina. To apply for your passport, please click here and fill out the form with all your information. We will send you an email within three business days with the next steps to take in order to obtain your passport. In order to speed up the process, please include a picture of yourself with the form so that we can confirm your identity when we receive it. This picture should be no more than 10MB in size; if it is larger than this limit, then it will not be accepted by our system and you will have to resend it as soon as possible in order for us to start processing your application.
- Have a valid visa (if applicable). If you are from outside of Japan or Argentina, then you need to have a valid visa before coming here — otherwise, there’s no point even applying! We recommend that all participants check their visas before applying just so they know what kind of paperwork they’ll need before starting this process (such as filling out any necessary forms).
